The Our Father is called the Lord’s Prayer because our Lord Jesus Christ Himself taught it to us. Why is The Lord’s Prayer the most perfect of all prayers? “The Lord’s Prayer” is the most perfect of all prayers because it contains all that we ought to ask for, whether concerning God, in the first three petitions, or as it regards ourselves and our neighbor, the remaining petitions. Whom do we invoke by the words “Our Father”? By the words” Our Father” we invoke God as a most loving Father, to show our love and trust in Him, and to incline His goodness and mercy towards us. Why do we call God our Father? We say “Our Father” and not my Father because, owing to the gift of the divine adoption, all the faithful are brethren in Christ, and ought therefore to have feelings of brotherly love for one another, and should therefore not pray for themselves alone but for others as well.
